Tsunami in Japan

If you haven't been living under a rock for the past year then you would've no doubt heard about the tsunami that hit Japan and effected several other places. If you have been living under a rock, it was an insanely massive earthquake in the Pacific Ocean that caused the tsunami yesterday. On the Richter Scale, the scale that measures the "seismic energy" of an earthquake, the earthquake yesterday was an 8.9! That's a really, really, really big shake! Overall, this has led to mass destruction and thousands either dead or missing.

We were watching footage of the waves sweeping things away in my social studies class yesterday and I was appalled by some of the boys in my class. They were laughing at the boats hitting each other or fires raging. All I have to say to the people like that is someday, that might be you stuck in a burning building or on the boat careening towards another one. Show some compassion!

Anyway, my heart goes out to all those effected in the disaster! And not just those in Japan, but also in other places where the waves hit. I liked an interview I saw yesterday of an elderly Japanese woman living in the US who was saying how she believed her country could pull through this. Way to have hope!
